Sharing Your Universe

Diane Haynes has been here all week, giving us a peek into her world. Today we're looking at her latest novel, Rift Healer. I love the cover, don't you?

Monster-spewing rifts have been seen deep within Gisele Westerfield's enchanted forest after a rare Massachusetts earthquake awakens an old curse.

Gisele's great nephew, the gifted Micah and his distant cousin Selena arrive to assist in her attempts to heal the rifts. When Gisele's summer students, twins Haley and Lacey offer to help, Micah identifies Haley as The One with whom he'll share his future, much to the consternation of the beautiful Selena. Initially attracted to him, Haley cools to his advances after witnessing a terrifying display of his Gift. She then discovers a Gift of her own--she can heal the earth!

Monsters, mayhem and teenage angst follow Gisele and her small group of teenagers as they confront evil in the forest and the prediction that, "One will fall." Can the school-children-turned-warriors silence the evil and save the unicorns? And is Haley really destined to be with Micah?

Sounds fantastic, doesn't it?

Be sure to stop by tomorrow when Diane will offer a goodie bag giveaway...and take my word for it, it's awesome!

Changing Your Universe

I'd like to welcome fellow Crescent Moon Press author Diane Haynes to Changing Your Universe.

We're all the sum total of our life experiences, but there are moments when someone or something affects us, possibly even influences the direction our lives will take. Here is one of those stories.

Changing Diane's Universe

When on April 1, 2004, my alcoholic brother, Rick, was found dead in his apartment, our family was shocked, but not surprised, if you know what I mean. Over the previous twenty years, even with attempted interventions, the spiral of his life seemed to curl unswervingly downward.
We buried him, grieved and eventually went on our own lives.
Then on his next birthday, November 16, I woke from an amazing dream. Two girls and a boy sat in a meadow before a small treasure chest filled with glowing crystals, surrounded by pastel-colored orbs of light.
Entranced, I watched from overhead as a pink fairy flew to one of the girls and landed on her cheek. Her eyes widened with delight as pink circles of light radiated from this special fairy.
I outlined the dream that morning (my high school English teacher would be so proud!) and over the next several days, I wrote a twelve-page short story. I assumed it would land in a drawer the way the rest of my short stories did, only this time doing that seemed wrong.
I felt then and still do, that this particular story was a Spirit Gift from my brother and I should do more to honor his memory. I decided to write a full-length novel in which my dream became the climax of the story. The result, Keeper of the Forest, has yet to be published, but it became an introduction of sorts to Rift Healer.

The Great War of 2185 is over, but my nightmare has just begun. I am being held captive in the Queen’s ship awaiting interrogation. My only possible ally is the princess, but I’m unsure if she is really my friend or a trap set by the Queen to fool me into sharing the secret of my gift. A gift I keep hidden even from myself. It swirls inside my body begging for release, but it is the one thing the Queen can never discover. Will I have the strength to keep the secret? I’ll know the answer soon. If the stories are true about the interrogators, I’ll either be dead or a traitor to my people by morning.

Reviewing Your Universe

Sword & Blood by Sarah Marques
Vampire Musketeers Series #1
ARC Approved by NetGalley

Rating:  5 Stars

I love the classics—and I love genre novels.  So when I read the words “vampire musketeers” I was hooked. Seriously, how could I not read a book about sword-wielding, honor-bound men that battle deadly, vicious, blood-sucking monsters in an effort to protect the remaining human men and women of their country?

The familiar phrase of “one for all and all for one” takes on a new twist, but doesn’t change its strong, underlying meaning. Porthos, Athos, Aramis and D’Artagnan prove their dedication to their cause, and each other, many times over in their fight against the dark plague spreading across Europe. These men understood that only by banding together and fighting as one could they hope to stop the vampires from completely taking over.

Action-packed scenes propel this swashbuckling adventure forward on a tide of fear, horror and dark eroticism that grabs the reader from the first page and never lets go. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip through Ms. Marques’ alternate historical paranormal world—and I can’t wait to visit it again!

Saari Mitchell sees a psychologist in order to understand why-500 years later-she's still dreaming of her dead lover. Her shrink isn't helping, the nightmares come every time she closes her eyes, and the lack of sleep is interfering with her job at Sacred Heart Hospital. With her psychic ability to heal the human spirit on the fritz, her auric radar becomes as reliable as her spotty cell phone service.

By day, Dhelis Guidry works as a detective for the new Angeles Police Department investigating the missing or murdered women in the Full-Moon Killer case. In his spare time he hunts rogue vampires as a Tueri executioner.

Brogan Vincent is a Tueri healer. Though he could offer his miraculous talents to the rich and powerful, he has chosen anonymity and peace by only using his psychic abilities among the Tueri.

One look into Saari's tri-colored eyes and both men realize she is Tueri. One touch tells them each she's their soul mate. But can either of them protect her from the Full-Moon Killer?

Saari Mitchell attends a Tueri conference in Las Vegas, Nevada to strengthen her bonds with Dhelis Guidry and Brogan Vincent—and see if they can make their three-sided relationship work. But when Saari and her vampire brother Mag’s lives are threatened, her trip to paradise soon becomes a surreal fight for survival.

Dhelis and Brogan’s psychic abilities are no help in finding Saari. Desperate to save their mate, they call in favors from the psychic and preternatural community, but the information leads only to more questions. Is the threat against Saari personal or part of a larger plan that threatens every human and Tueri’s existence?

Changing Your Universe

Here on Changing Your Universe, we chat about experiences where someone or something influenced the direction your life took or just made a difference in your life.

Today, my Crescent Moon Press author and colleague, Joanne Brothwell is here, sharing her Changing Your Universe experience with us.

Changing My Universe
By Joanne Brothwell

Gandalf

I would have to say that the day I started my current job as a therapist my life irreversibly changed. That day was just over four years ago, after leaving a job I’d been too comfortable in for eight years. I was afraid to leave the comfort zone of that old job; the familiarity and predictability its main advantages. But challenging ourselves in life is an absolute necessity if we want to continue to grow as people, and I had to accept the fact that I needed to move on.

That first day I was terrified and nervous. What will people think of me? Will everyone be stuffy and boring and not like me for the quirky person I am? After about a month, I knew. These were fabulous people, and I was going to fit in just fine.

The life-altering enlightenment started when I began to work with the man who hired me into the position. I came to think of him as Gandalf, not because of how he looked, but because he was a wizard with clients and could always make miraculous things happen in session. It was his last year before retirement, and he generously took me under his wing, helping me to blossom as a therapist and gain confidence in myself and my skills.

It was an intense year, one of both personal and professional growth. At the end of it, I’d changed. I was more self-aware, I was more focused. And I had one thing that I’d always lacked up until that point: clarity.

One month after Gandalf’s retirement I began to write with the intention to complete a novel. Coincidence? I think not. It was because of my clarity of thought that I was able to really look inside myself and see that I had a passion for storytelling, the confidence in myself to try and the wherewithal to act on it.

So, thank you, Gandalf, for your mentorship, your support and your guidance; for without you, there may never have been a book called Stealing Breath

Review:

Stealing Breath opens with a pounding shot of adrenaline. We’ve all been startled awake, certain we’ve heard something that dragged us from a deep sleep. Usually, it’s nothing. For Sara Ross, it’s something.

From the first page, Ms Brothwell immerses the reader in a fast-paced mystery. Myth and folklore become reality, friendships are put to the test, and romantic entanglements endanger not only Sara’s heart but her life.

If you like your romance filled with action-packed mystery and adventure, Stealing Breath has got it all!

It's said love can change a person. Medusa wasn't always a monster...

Medusa is ruled by duty, to her Titan father and the Goddess Athena. She's no room for the tenderness her warrior guard, Ariston, stirs. When Olympus frees her from service, her heart leads her into the arms of the guard she loves... and curses her as the creature with serpent locks.

Ariston goes to war with a full heart... and dreadful foreboding. He learns too late of the danger Medusa faces, alone, and a Persian blade sends him into the Underworld. But death, curses, nor the wrath of the Gods will keep him from returning to her.

Poseidon will use Greece's war to get what he wants: Medusa. He does not care that she belongs to another. He does not care that she will be damned. He is a God, an Olympian, and she will be his.
